Aluminum Foil for Barbecue, Baking Tray Paper & Parchment Paper?
Aluminum foil is not the same as parchment / baking‑tray paper. They cannot be used interchangeably in all scenarios.
1. Aluminum Foil
✅ Suitable for: barbecuing meat, enclosing food to retain juices, lining baking trays to catch oil, baking sweet potatoes, chicken wings
- Heat‑resistant, safe for open flame and oven use; fast heat conduction, locks moisture and prevents oil splatters.
⚠️ Not recommended for:
- Baking cakes, cookies or bread. Aluminum foil is non‑non‑stick. Batter sticks easily. Its reflective surface causes uneven heating and poor browning.
- Avoid prolonged contact with acidic foods (tomato, lemon, vinegar). Acid may leach aluminum; do not store acidic food in foil for long periods.
- Usable in air fryers, do not fully cover air vents.
Function of aluminum foil: heat conduction, moisture locking, oil blocking. Not non‑stick.
2. Parchment Paper / Baking Paper
✅ Suitable for: cookies, cakes, pastries, roasted meat & fish, tray lining, air‑fryer use
- Coated with food‑grade silicone for excellent non‑stick performance. Baked food peels off easily.
- Oven‑safe. Keep away from direct open flame, it will catch fire.
⚠️ Not for direct charcoal contact in charcoal barbecue, risk of ignition.
Function of parchment paper: non‑stick for baked goods. Not flame‑resistant.

Practical Tips
- Charcoal barbecue: Use aluminum foil only. Never use parchment paper — it will burn.
- Oven‑baked cakes / cookies: Prefer parchment paper. Avoid aluminum foil for sticking and uneven browning.
- Oven‑roasted meat / fish: Both work. Choose parchment for easy release; choose foil for wrapped moist cooking.
- Fish baking tray: parchment for non‑stick; aluminum foil for enclosed braised‑roast effect.
Note: Heavy‑duty barbecue tray paper (thickened parchment) is for ovens / electric grills only. It will ignite if placed directly on charcoal.
